Artist Statement

Memories and dreams are often the subject and force behind my work. I work in series and create mixed media paintings exploring various topics that are always influenced by nature and life and my experience within them. One example is a series exploring the veil between the living and the dead that I entitled VEILS. Art as therapy in that case, guided my walk through the loss of a beloved sister and has also tenderly opened the conversation of this philosophy with others.

My work explores mood and color through a variety of medium and the interplay of patterns and textures. I incorporate a wide variety of materials, including decorative and hand-printed papers, fabric, acrylic paint, gold and silver leaf, and bits of metal to embellish these precisely constructed surfaces.

I’ve been inspired by nature from a young age, so naturally use symbolic imagery such as trees, animals, florals and birds to reflect on the familiar elements in nature that inspire our interconnection.

I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking and painting from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and a Master of Art Education from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
