Artist Statement
As a painter and printmaker, I create layered mixed media paintings exploring memories and dreams. I have been inspired by nature from a young age and that Influence remains, coloring my work with optimism, mood and color. I reconstruct textures that are familiar, creating an ambiance that feels right for each piece. I believe art is therapy, for myself and my viewers. My heart sings when someone connects with the emotions and thoughts that poured into my work.
I use a combination of acrylic paint, gold leaf, handmade paper, thin pressed metal and fabric as compositional elements in my work. The use of symbolic imagery such as trees, animals, florals and birds, invites my viewers to reflect on the harmonious elements in nature that promote our interconnection.
I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking and painting from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and a Master of Art Education from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
I enjoy sharing my passion with others through the teaching of printmaking technique workshops, especially a method called Provincetown White Line Printmaking invented in the USA in 1918.
